Contrary to popular belief, combination skin is not a skin type. In fact, there are only three skin types: dry skin, oily skin, or (for the luckiest), balanced skin, which can be described as normal skin. In the case where oily skin lacks water, it is said to be dehydrated, or combination.
Distinguishing between combination skin and oily skin
OILY SKIN
Oily skin is a skin type that tends to produce sebum in large quantities, which:
It gives it a more or less pronounced glossy appearance (over the whole face, or on the T-zone).
Increases the risk of imperfections such as uneven skin texture, pimples, or visible and enlarged pores.
MIXED SKIN
Combination skin is oily skin that lacks moisture. It is easily recognizable by:
By nature, combination skin tends to get oily easily with a presence of shine localized on the T-zone, with or without imperfections.
Due to its dehydration, combination skin is prone to occasional tightness in the cheeks, temples, and breasts.

Why does oily skin become dehydrated?
There are many hormonal or external factors (stress, pollution, seasons) that lead to dehydration of skin tissue, regardless of its nature.
That said, the main factor is genetic, and it is often women who are subject to this condition. Indeed, they are sensitive to fluctuations in sebum production depending on medical treatments, puberty, hormonal cycles, pregnancy, or menopause.
However, there are aggravating factors, including:
Tobacco, which clogs pores and also tends to disrupt hormonal balance in favor of androgens.
Sugary foods, rich in saturated fat.
Some contraceptive pills also tend to disrupt the skin tissue.
All of these factors will worsen dehydration. It is therefore advisable to eat healthily, drink little alcohol, exercise regularly, and avoid stress.
Hydrating oily skin: the steps to take
In summary, the goal of combination skin is to rebalance the different areas of the face by regulating sebum secretion in the T-zone while intensely hydrating the skin.
DAY CREAM
A day cream remains essential for deep hydration of the skin. Choose a moisturizing cream with a light, non-comedogenic texture to minimize the appearance of blemishes.
Therefore, we recommend choosing a day cream with botanical active ingredients selected according to your skin type.
CLEANSING OIL
This is an often underestimated yet essential step in revitalizing dehydrated combination skin. Contrary to what one might think, a cleansing and makeup-removing oil, when properly emulsified and rinsed, purifies the face of all the impurities accumulated during the day, while respecting its natural balance.
Of course, for this it is advisable to choose a non-comedogenic oil such as the Laboté Cleansing Oil Makeup Remover which does not leave a greasy film on the skin.
APPLY PURIFYING TREATMENTS
Don't hesitate to apply our targeted anti-blemish treatment with purifying essential oils to the affected area: the Purifying Targeted Treatment . This treatment will soothe inflammation and help you get rid of your skin imperfections more quickly.
Warning: some cosmetic products can dehydrate even oily skin!
Certain cosmetic habits worsen dehydration in combination skin. To help you combat shine, our Doctors of Pharmacy have listed the main things to avoid:
AVOID THE USE OF OCCLUSIOUS OR OVERLY AGGRESSIVE COSMETIC PRODUCTS (FOAM, MAKE-UP WIPES, MICELLAR WATER...)
Using harsh products in the hope of removing sebum is a mistake: these products will actually cause the skin to overreact and produce even more sebum to protect itself. Indeed, these cosmetics damage the skin's natural hydrolipidic film. This hydrolipidic film's function is to slow down the natural evaporation of water from our skin tissue. When this film is damaged, it no longer functions properly, and the skin tissue becomes dehydrated.
DO NOT LAYER CREAMS
Applying multiple creams can clog your pores, preventing sebum from being properly eliminated by your skin. Opt instead for a combination of a serum and a day cream designed to allow your skin to breathe.
DO NOT NEGLECT THE HYDRATION OF YOUR SKIN
People with combination skin often focus on getting rid of their skin imperfections. However, moisturizing your skin is the best way to eliminate shine.
DO NOT APPLY SKINCARE PRODUCTS THAT ARE TOO RICH AND COMEDOGENIC
For example, pure vegetable oils are not your ally: they will add oil to your skin rather than retaining your skin's water.
